Some others said to have been injured during the attack have been moved to a military hospital in the Kaduna state capital.

The assailants, according to sources, also abducted many people including travellers along the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna road and Dogon Dawa between Wednesday and Thursday.

In the last three years, hundreds of people have been kidnapped and several others killed in Birnin Gwari, a community that has suffered banditry, armed robbery, and cattle rustling recently.

The One Division of the Nigerian Army has yet to confirm the incident at the time of this report.

Recall that only yesterday, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin inaugurated four locally manufactured Mine Resistant Ambush Protected, MRAP vehicles for the Nigerian Army to aid the war against insurgency in the Northeast and Northwest zones of the country.

Recall also that on July 17 Colonel Kenneth Eze Elemele and four other soldiers of the 29 Taskforce Brigade in Borno State Brigade were ambushed and killed by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The insurgents killed all the officers except for a soldier who reportedly ran into the bushes during the attack.
