Calls by THE WHISTLER to the Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Bala Elkana proved abortive as he did not pick his calls at the time of this report.

Abiola is widely regarded as the winner of the 1993 presidential election, which was annulled by former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.).

As a result of that annulment, he declared himself president and was subsequently arrested and detained for treason by the regime of the late General Sani Abacha.

He died in detention under suspicious circumstances in 1998.
