Hurting On The Inside

In my teenage years, there was a song I loved very much: On the Inside, by the Mary Jane Girls, the American R&B group mentored by the mercurial Rick James. To be exact, the reggae version by Sammy Levi was part of my daily diet. I must have listened to Levi’s version a million times – or more. The song talks about falling in love with someone who keeps hurting your feelings. As I became more politically conscious, it meant more than a love song to me. With the 2019 elections beginning to dominate the airwaves, this song…

Kenya’s Odinga Calls For Fresh Poll, Says Country In ‘Grave Danger’

Kenyan opposition leader, Raila Odinga, has said in an interview with the Associated Press that the repeat presidential election was a sham and that a new vote should be held within 90 days. Mr. Odinga said on Sunday that low voter turnout in the election on Thursday, a rerun of an August election, indicated that the process wasn’t valid and that the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta is trying to “destroy other institutions of governance in our country,” including the Supreme Court. Fox News reports Mr. Odinga as…

Kenya Election Commissioner Flees Country Few Days To Polls

Roselyn Akombe, an election board commissioner, has resigned and fled Kenya a week before a rerun of the presidential election. In September, the country’s supreme court annulled presidential elections held in August because the polls were “neither transparent nor verifiable”. Uhuru Kenyatta victory was annulled following a petition by opposition leader Raila Odinga. The court then ordered a re-rerun election for October. Under Kenyan law repeat election is to be held within 60 days of nullification of the original…

Kenya Election: Raila Odinga Pulls Out Of Re-Run
