Tanker Explodes As Residents Scoop Fuel From Fallen Tanker

Two persons have been killed in a tanker explosion which occured around Oju Irin in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Our correspondent gathered that the tanker fell around 4:45am on Sunday and spilt it’s content on the road.

This was said to have led some residents to start scooping fuel from the fallen tanker. The uncooperative attitude of the people scooping petrol was said to have led to a spark which led to the explosion.

The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the explosion.

He said the tanker, owing to an axle problem, overturned around 4:45am while making its way inbound Rounder from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa, causing it to spill its content on the road.

He asked residents to vacate the vicinity, saying TRACE, police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Fire Service were on the ground to bring the situation under control.
