TCN Restores Power Supply After Nationwide Black Out

The national grid has been restored after the system collapse which
occurred at 4.15pm on Thursday.

This was disclosed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN),
General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Friday noting that the
collapse occurred while the grid was recovering from an earlier
partial system slump.

The TCN said the initial grid slump which occurred at 12.34pm on
Thursday was a partial collapse of the system as the grid was still
supplying power to Port-Harcourt, Aba, Omoku, Yenegoa, Afam, among
others.

“Effort immediately commenced to synchronise other parts of the
network but as restoration reached an advanced stage, the situation
suddenly degenerated into a collapse of the nation’s grid,” Mbah
explained.

“Full restoration of the grid re-commenced immediately after the
incident and by 10pm yesterday, most parts of the nation had been
reconnected to the grid.

“At 2:19am, however, the grid was fully restored.”

Recall that the national electricity grid collapsed twice within than
two hours on Thursday resulting in a power outage in the country.

Similarly, the grid collapsed several times in 2019, causing power
failure across the country, with the most recent occurring in May
2019.

However, assuring Nigerians that the TCN was working round the clock
to ensure better performance of the grid, Mbah noted that system
failures may not be totally avoided as the grid is operated with zero
spinning reserve.
