Teenager Kidnaps Relative, Demands N40m Ransom

The police on Wednesday summoned 18-year-old Ebenezar Istifanus, a JSS3 student of Government Science School Wamba, Nasarawa State, to the Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over the alleged kidnap of his eight-year-old cousin, Innocent Sani.

The accused reportedly kidnapped Sani on December 18, 2017, the prosecutor, Kufreabasi Ebong, alleged.

He said that the Ebenezer lured the boy out of the lawful custody of his guardians without consent.

Mr Ebong went further to say that the accused demanded N40 million ransom, but was only paid N160,000.

According to NAN, He said that the offence breached the provisions of Section 273 of the Penal Code.

Ebenezer bluntly denied committing the offence, stating that he was wrongly accused by Mr. Ebong.

He claimed that he was fixing electrical faults within the store of a former neighbour when he was arrested by Police operatives.Mr Emenisi Ebiwari, who is the Justice for Peace, narrated the case as ‘delicate’ because it “entails members of the identical household”.

He went ahead to give a declaration that Ebenezer should be kept in the police custody and then adjourned the case to today, February 1, 2018.
