TETFund: Buhari Sacked Me For Refusing To Give N200m Bribe – Baffa

Dr Bichi Baffa, who was recently sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Executive Secretary (ES) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund), has claimed he was removed for refusing to give N200 million bribe to a serving minister.

According Baffa, President Buhari removed him as TETfund boss on Monday for refusing to give the said bribe to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

The sacked TETfund ES stated this while speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa service.

He said, “The minister has demanded kickbacks from me. He sent a contractor for that purpose and even had the strength to dictate that amount of money. By his estimation, he said even if I deducted 10% from each institution, I would have collected at least N20 billion.

“I want to assure you that I’ve never collected a single naira from any institution as he thought and if he or anybody has evidence to prove against me, I will be willing to accept the death penalty,” he said.

Baffa said contrary to allegations of inaccessibility and insubordination levelled against him by Mallam Adamu, the reason for his removal was mainly because he refused to give the minister the bribe.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that Baffa’s sack was linked to his alleged misunderstanding with Mallam Adamu over TETFund’s intervention in Nigerian institutions in 2019.
