President Buhari And Goodluck Jonathan Mourns Elechi Amadi

In his tribute, President Muhammadu Buhari described his demise “as much a loss to Nigeria and Africa as it is to the world”.

Buhari added that he “dedicated his life to values of peace, equality, dignity and the reading culture in Nigeria”.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, also took to social media to celebrate the late Amadi, he said “Amadi was a renowned writer and patriot who served his fatherland meritoriously, through his literary works and exemplary performance in public service.”

Amadi was most known for his debut novel, The Concubine, which portrays a society still ruled by traditional gods. The book was an instant success that it became a recommended text in African schools.

His other works include; The Great Ponds, The Slave, Dance of Johannesburg, Sunset in Biafra, Peppersoup and the Woman of Calabar.
