Thousands Stranded As Heavy Gridlock Hits Kubwa Expressway

Thousands of Nigerians were on Wednesday stranded following a heavy traffic on the Kubwa expressway, Abuja.

Hundreds of cars were held at a standstill for hours over an alleged shutdown of the road from the Dei dei to the Gwarinpa axis of the expressway.

According to Brekete Family human right program, the traffic was caused by a military jugging which had held earlier in the day on the expressway.

It was however, learnt that the military had since vacated the road, but, the heavy gridlock caused by the exercise had yet to be cleared off.

Some Nigerians on the traffic who spoke to THE WHISTLER expressed disappointed at the choice of the particular expressway for the exercise.

“This is a major road, it should not be used for such activities,” a source who simply identified himself as Mr Isah said.

“We can’t even get a car to take us to town!” exclaimed a commuter who looked weary after waiting for a long time.

As at the time of filing this report, the traffic was still intense.
