Threats Of Sanctions By US, UK Influenced Outcome Of Edo Poll -Adegboruwa

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, has said that foreign influence made Nigeria’s political actors to play by the rules during Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

Recall that the United States Government had placed visa restrictions on certain Nigerians for allegedly undermining the elections in Kogi , Bayelsa states, among others.

The British High Commission also threatened to ban anyone who attempted to cause electoral malpractice in Edo and Ondo states.

Although the final result has yet to be announced, Governor Godwin Obaseki (Peoples Democratic Party) is leading in the results of 17 local governments so far released.

“Edo Election was determined by the US, EU and the western powers. As simple as that. Whoever they favour will always carry the day.

“So it was in 2015 so it is now.

“Our leaders are scared to be placed under visa restrictions, where they may not be able to access their loot and have opportunity for good medical treatment,” Adegboruwa stated on Sunday via Facebook.

Furthermore, he argued that foreign powers could use their diplomatic privileges to ensure free and fair elections in Nigeria, if they so desired.

“This is what has led to peace in Edo.

“If America and the Western powers want it, election in Nigeria will always be free,” he claimed.

More so, he held that President Muhammadu Buhari deserved praises for not influencing the outcome of the Edo election.

He also observed that that Edo residents came out to exercise their right to vote.

“Secondly, whether we agree or not, President Buhari has also shown himself to be a good leader, in allowing the will of the people to prevail.

“Above it all, we salute the courage of the Edo electorate, very enlightened and vigilant,” he stated.
