Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has condemned Saturday’s assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump, describing the attack as “distasteful” and outside the bounds of democratic norms.
The incident occurred on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump, 78, was delivering a campaign speech.
In a post on his X page, President Tinubu expressed his disapproval of the violent act: “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.
“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
U.S. President Joe Biden also responded to the incident, stating, “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.”

Biden added, “There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
In her reaction, the U.S Vice President Kamala Harris said she was “relieved that he (Trump) is not seriously injured” adding “We are praying for him, his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting.”
Following the surprising development, tech billionaire Elon Musk publicly endorsed Trump’s bid to return to the White House.
Musk tweeted, “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” accompanied by a video of Trump being evacuated from the stage.
The FBI on Sunday identified the suspect behind the shooting as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
