Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for September.

The South Korean international who scooped the prize ahead of Romelu Lukaku, Theo Walcott, Adam Lallana and Kevin De Bruyne becomes the first Asian player to win the award.

Son hit the headlines for the right reasons in September, scoring four goals to maintain Tottenham’s unbeaten run in the league and taking them to second place on the table.

The 24-year-old scored twice in a 4-0 win at Stoke City, his second being nominated for the Carling Goal of the Month award, before bagging a brace in a 2-1 victory away to Middlesbrough.

He also had 33 touches in the opposition box – three more than any other player – and attempted 34 dribbles, again more than anyone else in the league.

“This is my dream, to get the award,” Son who signed for the North London side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 said. “I want to get it a second time, a third time. When I take the award home my family will be crazy like you can’t believe; they will be really happy.

“I’m very thankful for the support. They support every day, every weekend, every game.”

Tottenham’s next Premier League fixture is against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday at The Hawthorns.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp won the manager of the month following Liverpool’s red-hot form in September, winning all four fixtures.
