Tragedy Hits Kano Pillars As Star Defender Dies In Auto Crash
Kano Pillars’ on Monday announced the untimely death of its defender, Chinedu Udoji.
Udoji was said to be on his way back to the Kano Pillars club house after he visited his former Enyimba teammates at their hotel on Sunday night, when the ugly incident occured.
“Tragedy hits Pillars as we lost Chinedu Udoji after a terrific car accident in Kano. The untimely death Chinedu Udoji is shocking and a great loss to the football family.
“Chinedu Udoji was involved in a car accident yesterday after visiting his former team mates at Enyimba. This tragic accident happened along Club Road in Kano. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, fans, and football lovers all across the country,” the club tweeted on Monday morning.
The club also apologised for their lateness in reporting the news which happened yesterday, reasons that they were waiting for official confirmation from the police.
“We sincerely apologize for the ‘scheduled’ tweet about Racca Rovers this morning. We were all deeply shocked and touched by the passing away of Chinedu Udoji. Also we had to wait for the official confirmation of his demise from the police before posting anything unwarranted.”
Similarly, The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have expressed deep shock following the sudden demise of the 29-year-old.
“The demise of @pillarsfc defender Chinedu Udoji comes as a rude shock to us this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and club. May his soul rest in peace. #RIPUdoji,” the NFF tweeted.
Udoji was Man of the Match in Sunday’s NPFL Week 9 match against his former club Enyimba, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Enyimba also commiserated with the ex-skippo’s family following his untimely death.
“We are distraught at the news of the passing of club legend and former captain, Chinedu Udoji. Our commiserations are with his family at this time,” the club wrote on its twitter handle.
