Trevor Noah Steps Down As #MAMAs2016 Host 24hrs To Event

Host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” Trevor Noah has pulled out at the last minute from hosting the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) 2016, due to “a severe upper respiratory and ear infection”.

The South African was set to host the sixth edition of the MAMAs in Johannesburg on Saturday, 22 October 2016, but due to the illness will no longer be able to host the show.

The American based comedian broke the news in the early hours of Friday morning, noting that due to the infection, his doctors advised him to rest.

MTV Base has yet to comment, and announce a new host to fill in for Noah, however according to a tweet by Tshwane FM, South African TV and radio personality Bonang Matheba will now host the event this weekend.

The MAMAs will celebrate talents across 18 award categories, with live event set to take place at Ticketpro dome, which will feature live performances from Yemi Alade, Nasty C, Babes Wodumo, Ycee, Alikiba and Cassper Nyovest.
