Tribunal Affirms Ganduje As Kano Governor

The Kano state election petitions tribunal has upheld the victory of governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the supplementary election in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ganduje lost the first election held on March 9 by a slim margin, but his total votes in the two polls in the supplementary election put him ahead of his main challenger, Yusuf.

Before the supplementary election, Yusuf led with about 26,000 votes after he polled 1,014,474 votes to Ganduje’s 987,819 votes, leaving a difference of 26,655 votes.

In the supplementary election held in 28 out of the 44 local government areas in the state, Ganduje won by scoring 45,876 votes to Yusuf’s 10,239 thereby up turning the result in his favour.

His victory was however challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Abba Yusuf, at the tribunal.

According to Yusuf, Ganduje won the election amidst irregularities. He therefore asked the tribunal to rather declare him (Yusuf) winner.

But the tribunal, in its ruling by Justice Halima Shamaki led three man panel after hearing arguments from both side declared Ganduje as the duly elected governor of Kano state.
