While the residents of Ita Faaji in Lagos Island, Lagos State, are still trying to grapple with the misfortune that came with the collapse of a three-storey building on No. 63 Massey Street, a mother who lost two children in the incident is said to have committed suicide.

The building, which was said to have been marked for demolition three times by authorities in the state, collapsed on Wednesday morning leaving at least 10 persons dead and several injured.

The structure was accommodating an “illegal” school, the Ohen Nursery and Primary School, and also served residential purposes.

It was a triple tragedy when the mother of two, whose name was withheld, killed herself after learning of the death of both of her children who were said to be between the ages of six and four in the collapsed building.

It was gathered that the woman gave birth to them through Caesarean Section (CS).

The woman, according to New Telegraph, quietly strolled out of her residence around the Gambari area of the Island, bought a bottle of ‘sniper’ insecticide and went to her room where she reportedly emptied the substance in her stomach.

“Nobody knew what she wanted to do with the Sniper. But a few minutes later we saw the bottle beside her where she was sleeping.

“By the time people got there she was already dead,” the newspaper quoted deceased’s neighbour as anonymously saying.
