Truck Loses Control, Kills Female Biker In Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified female biker has been killed by a laden containerised truck around the Iganmu area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the driver of the truck while descending Iganmu Bridge lost control, causing the truck to fall on the biker.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 am on Monday.

The body of the biker, who was trapped under the truck after the accident, has been retrieved by emergency responders.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was speeding, lost control and caused the truck to fall on the female biker.

“The driver fled the scene upon realizing the severity of the accident,” Adebayo said in a statement.

The body of the deceased has been taken to a morgue by personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). Also, the truck has been evacuated to clear the way for free vehicular movement on Iganmu Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, while expressing his condolences to the family of the deceased, warned truck drivers to adhere to speed limits both within and outside the state.

He also advised motorcycle operators to obey traffic rules and regulations as stipulated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
