Trump Cancels First Trip To Latin America To Oversee ‘Response To Syria’

U.S. President, Donald Trump, has canceled his first official trip to Southern America, scheduled for later this week.

Trump had been scheduled to depart Friday for Peru to attend the 8th Summit of the Americas, before traveling to Colombia.

The White House said on Tuesday that the decision to cancel his visit became necessary because of the situation in Syria.

“President Trump will not attend the 8th Summit of the Americas in Lima, Peru or travel to Bogota, Colombia as originally scheduled,

“The president will remain in the United States to oversee the American response to Syria and to monitor developments around the world,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

Vice President Mike Pence will travel to Peru in Trump’s stead for the Summit.

Mr. Trump had on Monday promised a “forceful” response to the alleged chemical attack in Syria.

Dozens of people were reportedly killed in an apparent poison gas attack on a suburb of Damascus on Saturday, amid a resumed offensive by Syrian government forces after the collapse of a truce.
