Trump Speaks On Capitol Hill Violence, Says ‘I Am Defending American Democracy’

Amid the tensed situation in the United States, President Donald Trump, on Friday, addressed the nation and condemned those who attacked the Capitol building while maintaining that election integrity cannot be overemphasized.

Trump said that when the protest at the U.S. Congress turned violent, he dispatched security forces to restore law and order.

However, he explained that the reason he remains adamant on proving that the November 3 presidential elections was rigged was to “defend American democracy.”

He pledged to transfer power to President-elect Joe Biden, but added that the fight to protect America’s election would continue.

His words:

“Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem; I immediately deployed the national guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders.

“America is and must always be a nation of law and order; the demonstrators who infiltrated the capitol have defiled the seat of America n democracy and to those who engaged in the acts of Violence and destruction, you do not represent our country and to those who broke the law, you will pay.

“We have just been through an intense elections and emotions are high now, but tempers must be cooled and calm restored.

“We must get on with the business of America. My campaign rigorously pursued every legal avenue to contest the election results. My only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote.

“In so doing, I was fighting to defend American democracy, I continue to strongly believe that we must reform our election laws to verify the identity and eligibility of all voters and to ensure faith and confidence in future election.

“A new administration would be inaugurated January 20; my focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.

“This moment now calls for healing and reconciliation.”

Recall that Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, had called for Trump’s Removal, accusing him of instigating violence by his rhetorics.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has called for the identities of those who carried out violent acts during the Washington DC protest.
