Trump To Declare Mexican Drug Cartels Terrorists

United States President, Donald Trump, has said he will designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist groups for trafficking narcotics and people.

A drug cartel is a criminal organization with the intention of supplying drug trafficking operations.

Trump disclosed this on Tuesday, in an interview with conservative media personality Bill O’Reilly.

Bill asked the US president if he would designate the cartels as terror groups and “start hitting them with drones”.

In his response, he said his Mexican counterpart, Andrés Manuel López Obrador was aware the U.S had the intention to attack the cartels in Mexico.

“They will be designated… I have been working on that for the last 90 days. You know, designation is not that easy, you have to go through a process, and we are well into that process.

“I’ve already offered him to let us go in and clean it out and he so far has rejected the offer but at some point something has to be done,” he said.

But in a swift reaction, Mexico’s foreign ministry issued a statement saying it would contact the U.S. State Department in other to find possible ways to work things out.

“The foreign minister will establish contact with his counterpart, Michael R. Pompeo, in order to discuss this very important issue for the bilateral agenda,” the ministry said.

Donald trump’s war on Mexican drug cartels may not be unconnected with the murder of six US citizens in Mexico by gunmen earlier this month.
