When users log in to Twitter, even if they are just looking at tweets, the company usually receives some personal information like the type of device used and the IP address.

But in these new updates, Twitter gives its users control to limit the data collected from the media platform and how it’s being used.

Twitter further noted that users with this new update will now be able to appear anonymous on the platform, a feature it says was built with privacy in mind.

Also, Twitter users will be able to download the information they have shared on Twitter.

To further safeguard users information Twitter on Tuesday launched a new resource ‘Twitter Privacy Center’ which intends to be the central privacy resource for people that use Twitter and to help it to be accountable to all users.

According to the media company, the updates will take effects from 01 January 2020,

“Continued use of Twitter on or after the date will represent acceptance of these updates. You can always deactivate your account by following these instructions.”

Recall that Social media companies including Facebook had come under scrutiny on data privacy issues, following Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal in which personal data were collected from millions of users without their consent.
