Two Notorious ‘One-Chance’ Armed Robbers Nabbed In Anambra

Two young men, Chukwuemeka Ikechukwu, 22, of Chibest Street, Tarzan, and Tochukwu Okeke, 30, of Nkwelle Ukeh in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, were today arrested for allegedly engaging in armed robbery activities. They were said to be specialized in one-chance robbery and handsets snatching along Ogidi/Nkpor/Tarzan and Umunya axis in the state.

Our correspondent gathered that exhibits recovered from them were two firearms, twelve handsets, and cash sum of #290,000 ‘suspected to have been stolen from different victims at gun points’. They were nabbed at about 4:30am following an intelligence report by the police operatives attached Ogbunike Division.

A statement made available to THE WHISTLER in Awka, Sunday, which was signed by the Anambra State police public relations officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, stated that the suspects were part of the gang allegedly involved in series of armed robbery and handset snatching at Ogidi, Nkpor, Tarzan, Umunya, Odomodo, tollgate axis and its environs.

According to it, “The exhibits recovered in their possession include one automatic pump action with breech no 12776, one English pistol, one dagger, two handbags, twelve assorted handsets, one purse containing recharge cards of various denominations, one tricycle Keke with registration number NSH 299 QH, one locked safe containing unspecified amount of money and cash sum of #296,000, all reasonably suspected to have been snatched from different victims. The case is under investigation after which the suspects would be brought to book.”

The command, in the statement, enjoined people whose handsets and other belongings were either snatched or stolen through similar modus to report at Ogbunike Division or the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Akwuzu, for proof of ownerships and claims. It further called on the people of the state to provide intelligence reports to the police to forestall criminal activities, especially during the ‘ember months’.
