Two-Year-Old Boy Goes Missing At Lokoja Meme River

The family of Mr. Mamtip Kumfa and Mrs. Lovina Kumfa on Tuesday continued the search for their missing two-year-old son, Godwin Kumfa, who disappeared near Meme River in Lokoja.

Godwin was last seen around 7:30 a.m. on Monday near the river behind the Navy Quarters, Phase Two Extension.

His father, a security guard at a private school, said he got a distress call from a neighbour about the boy’s disappearance.

Mr. Kumfa said upon returning home, he met his wife frantically searching the riverbank. According to him, Lovina had left the child sitting by the riverside while she went to collect sand. When she returned, Godwin was gone.

“Godwin was left alone by the river while she gathered sand. Later, we found one of his shoes near Arigbede, about 15 km downstream. I’m lost. Godwin is my only son,” Kumfa told journalists.

The mother who wept uncontrollably, pleading for help and divine intervention.

“I left him just for a while. When I came back, he was gone. Please, God, help me find my child,” she cried.

A family friend, Seun Babalola, said residents combed the river path but only recovered one of the boy’s shoes.

He noted that a similar incident occurred two years ago when a seven-year-old named Goodluck Friday drowned in the same river.

“Two years ago, a seven-year-old named Goodluck Friday also drowned here. It’s painful. We don’t know if it’s natural or something else. Only God knows,” Babalola said.

Efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ovye Williams, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to him were not returned.
