The Falconets of Nigeria on Thursday defeated Haiti by a lone goal in their second group game at the ongoing FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup at the Stade de Marville, France.
Rasheedat Ajibade, the NFF 2018 Young Player of the Year, converted from the spot in the 36th minute to give the Falconets hopes of making it to the next round.
Chris Danjuma’s girls are now second in Group D.
In the other group D game player earlier today, three-time champion Germany thrashed China 2 – 0 to continue their dominance at the top of the table.
Nigeria’s final Group match is against China at the Lehon’s Stade de Clos Gastel stadium on Monday, 13th August.
Nigeria and China are on the same point, but the Falconets will need to get a win or draw to avoid early exit for the glory seeking girls.
Africa’s second representative at the tournament, Ghana, suffered an early exit as they fell to their second defeat on Wednesday, losing 4-0 to the Netherlands in Vannes.
They were beaten 4-1 by hosts, France, in their opening match.
