U.S Commends DSS For Averting Terror Attack On Its Embassy

The United States has commended the Department of State Services, DSS, for its intelligence in averting a terror attack on the American, British Embassy and other targets in the country.

Recall that the DSS had earlier said that it foiled a deadly ISIS-linked Boko Haram terrorist attack against the Embassies of the United States of America, the United Kingdom and other western interests in Nigeria.

A statement by the spokesman for the DSS, Mr. Tony Opuiyo, said the agency prevented what it described as fatal attacks between the 25th and 26th March, 2017, hindering the extremist groups based in Benue and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, from carrying out the assaults.

The agency also said it arrested the masterminds of the attack.

Following the development, Russell Brooks, the Press Attache, US mission said the embassy appreciated the work by the secret service and other Nigerian security forces in fighting terrorism and keeping citizens and residents safe.

He said the United States of America and Nigeria have a strong partnership in countering violent extremism.

“The U.S. Embassy appreciates the work of DSS and Nigerian security forces in fighting terrorism and keeping citizens and residents safe. Nigeria and the U.S. continue to have a strong partnership in countering violent extremism,” Brooks was quoted as saying by The Punch.
