Demer said that the alleged hackers provided vital information to China, thereby enabling Beijing to override other countries in many areas.

“According to the indictment, these malicious cyber activities began more than ten years ago and were ongoing as of the day of the indictment.

“During that time, the hackers stole terabytes of data from hundreds of targets, establishing themselves as a prolific threat to U.S. and foreign networks.

“Targeted industries included high tech manufacturing , medical device, civil and industrial engineering, business, educational and gaming software, solar energy, pharmaceuticals and defense,” he said.

Demers also accused the Chinese Government of protecting citizens who allegedly steals vital information of other countries, adding that Beijing “is providing a safe haven for criminal hackers.”

On its part , the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) beamed the searchlight on the duo, urging anyone with useful information about them to provide it.

“Two Chinese Hackers Working with the Ministry of State Security Charged with Global Computer Intrusion Campaign Targeting Intellectual Property and Confidential Business Information, Including COVID-19 Research,” FBI tweeted.

China’s Foreign Ministry Department is yet to react to this development as at the time of this report.

However, Hua Chunying, one of the country’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, said that the U.S. is afraid of China’s prominence, hence, the consistent attacks.

“Why so much hostility and hatred toward China? What is the real fear? For the sake of the American people’s life and future, stop playing the blame-shifting game,” she tweeted today, Tuesday.
