U.S. Places N2.5bn Bounty On Boko Haram Leader, Shekau 

The United States Department of State has placed $7 million (2.5 bn) reward for intelligence that would lead to the arrest of, Abubakar Shekau, Nigeria’s Boko Haram leader.

The US Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service posted this on its verified twitter handle on Tuesday.

According to the tweet on the Reward for Justice Francias, @ RFJ_Francais “The United States Department of State offers a reward up to $7m for information leading to the arrest of the terrorist, Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram.”

Shekau emerged the leader of Boko Haram terrorist sect, since 2009 after the  killing of its former leader, Mohammed Yusuf.

Since 2009, the sect has been responsible for the extrajudicial killing of tens of thousands of Nigerians especially in the Northern region, while 2.3 million have been displaced.

Shekau is now the number eight on the list of the most wanted terrorists by the United States.
