UCL: Real Madrid, City Through To Last 16

Spanish giants, Real Madrid booked their place in the Champions League last 16, with a hard fight over French rivals, Paris St-Germain.

A 36th minute strike from substitute, Nacho Fernandez, who replaced injured Marcelo was enough for Real to hang on to the narrow win.

PSG had their chances, with goal attempts from Adrien Rabiot, Edinson Cavani and an 89th minute free-kick from Angel Di Maria hitting the cross bar.

The win moves Rafael Benitez’s side three points above PSG and seven clear of third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk with two games left in the group stage.

Speaking after the match, Madrid defender Sergio Ramos said: “It was not comfortable for us at all.

“We played a lot better away in Paris where we could only draw. It was a difficult game and it has given us a lot to think about.”

Elsewhere, Manchester City also secured a place in the Champions League last 16, with a fine display against rivals Sevilla.

Raheem Sterling struck just after eight minutes, and Fernandinho doubled City’s lead two minutes later.

Sevilla hit back in the 25th minutes through a Benoit Tremoulinas’ header, before Wilfried Bony rounded off the scoring in the 36th minute sweeping in Jesus Navas low cross, for a 3-1 win.

Other results of the night, Manchester United beat Ahmed Musa’s CSKA Moscow 1-0, Shakster Donsesk beat Malmo 4-0, PSV Eindhoven defeated VFL Wolfsburg 2-0 and Benfica with a narrow 2-1 win over Turkish giant, Galatasaray.
