UK-Based Nigerian Motivational Speaker Launches 100 Scholarships for Makoko Girls

A Nigerian motivational speaker and top human resources consultant based in the United Kingdom, Dr. Dayo Olomu, has advised girls to be focused and never give up on their dreams irrespective of their current situation and location.

He gave the charge at an event hosted by CEE-HOPE, a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization last Saturday at Makoko, Lagos state.

The program which featured girls from CEE-HOPE’s Triple G program in cultural performances was also to mark the second year anniversary of Dayo Olomu Foundation.

During the event, 53 girls were selected for the outing in commemoration of Dr. Olomu’s 53rd birthday.

Olomu told the girls to be committed to their education and seek advice from knowledgeable individuals.

In her address, the founder of CEEHOPE, Betty Abah, appreciated the Dayo Olomu Foundation for partnering with her NGO to impact lives of girls in the largest slum community in West Africa.

Abah highlighted the educational challenges children are faced with in Makoko which is a major reason CEEHOPE is committed to the educational development of every children in the community so they can be responsible adults in future.

She revealed that some of the schools in Makoko operate a daily school fees-paying system of N50 (Fifty Naira) per day yet many parents cannot afford the amount.

To mark his 53rd birthday which will hold later in the year, Dr Olomu sponsored 53 girls to watch Black Panther movie.

The girls were drawn from various sub-communities of Makoko including Ori-Oke, Iwaya, Sogunro and others. The girls, led by the leader of the

Dr. Olomu kick-started the scholarship scheme, aimed at sponsoring 100 children from Makoko ultimately, by announcing 10 scholarships for a start.

The first recipient is 9-year-old Eleojo Gift Adaji, a primary four pupil in Makoko, whose school fees he paid almost immediately.

Abah appreciated Dr Olomu who was accompanied by Mr and Mrs Ayoola Iwayemi, for their kind gestures and desire to impact lives.
