UK ‘Saddened’ By Horrific Loss Of Lives In Zamfara

The United Kingdom has described as “horrific” the rate of attacks and killings in Zamfara State.

UK Minister for Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, Vicky Ford, stated this on Monday while expressing UK’s commitment to the federal government’s fight against insecurity.

Ford said Nigerian deserved to live in peace and not live in fear in their own country.

She stated: “Saddened to hear about horrific attacks & loss of life in Zamfara State. My thoughts are with all those affected.

“The United Kingdom is committed to working with the Nigerian Government to tackle insecurity. All Nigerians deserve to live without fear of violence.”

Reuters reports that residents in Zamfara said on Saturday that about 200 persons were killed by armed bandits in the latest incident of terrorism in the state.

In President Muhammadu Buhari’s new year message to Nigerians, he had assured that in view of the security challenges across the country, his administration remained committed and will work with “our international partners and neighbouring countries, we would be deploying multi-faceted solutions that will be targeted at addressing human security at the grassroots, before it leads to insecurity.”
