According to Patel, the nation was built by foreigners, adding that that forms the basis for its new visa policy.

“Mr. Speaker, many of the values that defined our great country originate from the huge benefit that immigration brought to our nation throughout its history.

“From every corner of the globe, people from around the world have made enormous contribution to the very fabric of our society; which is why the heart of this new single global immigration system, this government will focus on bringing talented people from around the world and the contributions that they and their families will make irrespective of their country of origin,” she said.

Patel also explained that entrance into the country should no longer be an exclusive right to Europeans, adding that UK is no longer part of the European Union.

She also said that the government is now focused on the best of brains from any part of the world.

“And now we have left the EU; this ambitious government of action is ending the discrimination of non-EU citizens so that we can attract the brightest and the best from around the world.

“That includes Mr. Speaker, ending free movement through the introduction of a single global immigration system which prioritizes on the skills people have to offer and not where they came from,” she added.

She added that the new policy was part of the decisions of the electorate, both at the referendum and the 2019 elections.

“Our country and our people will prosper through one system…one that would also deliver an over reduction in low skilled immigration as the public asked for.
