Unemployment Rose To 18% Under Your Watch – Moghalu Blasts Buhari

Dr Kingsley Moghalu, a 2019 presidential aspirant, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for saying Nigerian youths “do nothing” and “want everything for free”.

Reacting to the statement made by Buhari at the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London, Moghalu accused the president’s administration of causing unemployment in the country to rise from “8.2% in Q2 2015, to 18.8% now”.

The presidential aspirant strongly disagreed with Buhari’s comment, saying the youths are the country’s “richest raw material”.

A post on Moghalu’s official Facebook page reads: “Dear Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerian youths are not waiting for handouts. They are making the most of what has been left for them, which is nothing.

“Under your administration, unemployment has climbed from 8.2% in Q2 2015, to 18.8% now. Many want to work, but they have no opportunities.

“Many of our young people, from Wizkid to Davido to Don Jazzy have been fantastic cultural ambassadors of Nigeria. Lazy youth could not have pulled this off.

“Yet more, like Kola Oyeneyin and Otto Orondaam are doing their bit to give their fellow youths opportunities for a better life.

“We must refrain from asking our youth why their feet are dirty, when we don’t even give them shoes.”

Meanwhile, the Presidency on Thursday described those criticising President Buhari’s comment as “idle population”.

Presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina claimed that the president only referred to some, and not all Nigerian youths, as lazy.
