Union Kicks Against FG’s Plan To Hire Malaysian Consultants For N458m

The Industrial Global Union Africa has described as unpatriotic the Federal Government’s decision to hire Malaysian consultants for N458 million to aid the implementation of the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan 2017-2020.

The union in a statement by its Vice President Issa Aremuon on Sunday, said the government should rather hire Nigerian consultants to do the job rather than paying foreign nationals.

He stated that paying such a huge amount to foreigners for a job Nigerians could do did not show that the government was serious about promoting Nigerian goods and services.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the retention of Malaysian consultants to help conduct a study that would aid the implementation of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, who made the disclosure, stated that
the consultants would identify relevant stakeholders in both the public and private sectors for the implementation of the ERGP.

The minister explained that the study would be conducted in agriculture, transportation, power, gas and processing, among others.
