United Nigeria Airline Conducts Test Flight Ahead Q4 Take-off

Despite the pressure of Covid- 19 on the Nigerian aviation industry, United Nigerian Airline is not giving up on being launched by the fourth quarter of 2021.

United Nigeria is a proposed start up carrier to be based at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria disclosed the development on Thursday in a tweet.

FAAN said, “United Nigeria Airlines demo flight to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, yesterday.”

The operator said in its official website that the “start up airline expects to receive an air operator’s certificate in the near future and aims to commence domestic services in 4Q 2020.”

The airline said it would operate a fleet of four Embraer E145s initially with services from Enugu to Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos.

The proposed take off comes as the sector comes amidst fear that many airlines may not survive, while some would merge.

Nigerian airline industry lost over N160bn in 2020, but the loss is being reduced with the reopening of the economy.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Musa Nuhu had said in December last year that “Some airlines may not survive, but the industry will come back better.”
