But the Chairman, University of Ibadan COVID-19 Emergency Response Committee, Prof. Victoria  Adetunji, debunked the claims in an interview with THE WHISTLER.

Adetunji urged Nigerians to go and get vaccinated against the virulent virus, saying the disease burden was usually less among those vaccinated.

She said, ” The vaccines we have now are okay. I know they will improve with time but the ones available now are good and they will help to protect us.

” There are so many myths out there about the vaccines and I know that those untrue claims are the reason many people are scared of getting vaccinated.

“The vaccines available do not kill people. Health workers won’t be taking the vaccines if they are meant to kill whoever takes them. I have taken mine and I am very much alive. I had a mild temperature when I took it and that was all.

“All the unfounded claims are scaring people who ordinarily would have taken the vaccines because they are not sure. But these are lies and people should shun them.”

Adetunji said the University of Ibadan has become much more serious about forcing members of the university community to comply with all COVID-19 protocols because the Delta variant of the virus was more virulent than previous ones.
