Unknown Gunmen Kill Two Soldiers, Kidnap One Expatriate In Bayelsa State

Two soldiers were on Tuesday, killed by unknown gunmen during a shootout along Ogbia-Nembe Road in Nembe Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State.

It was leant that the gunmen also abducted an expatriate in the attack which was described as an ambush.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, said: “The soldiers guarding the construction company’s personnel on the site came under heavy attack from the bush. It was an ambush and before they could know what was happening, the gunmen opened fire on them. It was a surprise attack.”

The police spokesman for the Bayelsa State Command, Butswat Asinim, confirmed the abduction of the expatriate.

Asinim, who said the abducted man, Ramzi Bau Hadir was a Lebanese expatriate, aged 53 years, said that he did not have details regarding the two soldiers who were killed.

Confirming the killing of two soldiers was Operation Polu Shield spokesman, Colonel Isa Ado. He said, “Two of our men were killed in the early hours of today at Nembe junction, while one expatriate was abducted. It is saddening to lose these gallant soldiers, but efforts have been put in place to track down the perpetrators.”
