UPDATED: DSS Rearrests Sowore In Court [Video]

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday at the Federal High Court, Abuja rearrested the released Convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore was released by the DSS on Thursday after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the court ordered the service to release him within 24 hours. He was later released in the evening of the same day.

He spent 124 days in the custody of the secret police.

Justice Ojukwu, who has been handling his treasonable felony trial, insisted that her November 6 order must be complied with and Sowore must be released from custody or senior officials of the DSS would be held in criminal contempt.

According to reports, operatives of the DSS pulled their guns in a show of force causing confusion in the court premises and made an attempt to arrest the Sahara Reporters publisher.

Also, the DSS operatives reportedly chased the vehicle of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and lawyer to Sowore and Olawale Bakare, Femi Falana after he drove them out of the premises of the court.

The move follows the disruption of court proceedings by DSS operatives during the commencement of Sowore’s trial.

The incident led to rancour and commotion inside and around the court premises with the armed operatives preventing Sowore and team from leaving the place.

However, after several minutes of tension, Falana drove the two men in his car out of the court premises with DSS operatives in several vehicles giving them a hot chase behind.

Earlier, Falana later met with Justice Ojukwu and DSS’ lawyer, Hassan Liman, in a bid to resolve the matter.

The judge adjourned the case to 11, 12 and 13 of February 2020 for further hearing.

Sowore reportedly sustained bruises all over his body in the course of being rough-handled by the operatives inside the court.

It is not immediately clear why the DSS operatives arrested him, and there is no official reaction to the incident at the time of filing this report.

Sowore was earlier arrested on August 3 over charges of treasonable felony by the Nigerian government ahead of the #RevolutionNow protest he was planning and promoting.
