The congress said “it is in the interest of the united states to maintain a strong bilateral relationship with a politically stable, democratic and economically sound Nigeria that can play a leadership role in the region and the continent more broadly.”

The congress, however, expressed concern over instances of incitement of violence by members of ruling and opposition during elections.

It noted that security agencies displayed “partisanship and lack of objectivity” in the Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections.

It, however, praised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for improving the voting process through the introduction of continuous voters registration and the adoption of simultaneous accreditation and voting.
