Utomi Charges Youths To Embrace Entrepreneurship To Save Nigeria’s Economy

Renowned Professor of Economics, Pat Utomi has called on the youths to embrace the spirit of enterprise to save the country from its dwindling economic growth.

Utomi stated this in a lecture titled “Saving capitalism from the capitalists” delivered at the 4th convocation ceremony of McPherson University held in the institution at Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, on Saturday.

According to him, graduation should be the beginning of a positive new life after several years of preparation on campus, adding that the situation in Nigeria can be likened to the USA of old where graduates particularly youths help the country become present day America.

He said: “In many ways, Nigeria is like America was in 1979, a country in decline. The world says Nigeria has lost its strategic relevance in the world. But can the youth of Nigeria embrace the spirit of enterprise and through it save their country that once was a country of great promise?

“I am convinced the youth of Nigeria can set forth at dawn and turn around the fortunes of the land and their own future if they raise up the spirit of enterprise, the work ethic and the value of delayed gratification.”

Utomi, who is the founder of Centre for Values in Leadership charged the graduates to carry out their God-given task of using available resources to create new enterprises.

“You of the McPherson University graduating class of 2019 can help turn around the fortunes of our south-trending country, as the youth of America did in the 1980s.

“If only you can distinguish yourselves in a duty all were called to at the dawn of creation in Genesis 2:15, but you can put your stamp on history by becoming citizen-entrepreneurs because it is at that level that your contribution to institution-building that will facilitate those after you, having higher possibility of being able to creatively destroy for the greater good of society, ” he said.
