Uzodinma Seeks N32bn Supplementary Budget Approval To Pay Debt Incurred In Tackling Insecurity

The Imo State Government is seeking the approval of a supplementary budget of N31.9bn to help the State pay for the debt incurred in the process of fighting insecurity.

The State’s Executive Council has approved Uzodinma’s request, but it is still subject to the approval of the State House of Assembly.

The development was revealed in a statement from the social media handle of the Imo state new media and seen by THE WHISTLER on Wednesday.

The state had approved N346.2bn for the 2021 fiscal year.

A perusal of the approved budget reveals that no amount was specifically budgeted for security of the state except the N805,339,893 budgeted for the security of the state government.

THE WHISTLER recalls that the State Assembly had in October passed a bill for a law to supplement the 2021 budget with N31,909,038,590.

The Imo Government said that the supplementary budget would help the state settle the debt it incurred to fight insecurity.

It said, “The supplementary budget which has been sent to the Imo House of Assembly (IMHA) for necessary action, would in addition to others, settle expenditures incurred in the course of combating the insecurity witnessed in the state recently.

” Despite the limited resources at the disposal of the state, there was an urgent need to arrest the ugly monster that roared its head against the people of Imo State.

“However we came at a cost hence the supplementary budget as proposed.”

The Statement further revealed that the government will launch the ‘Imo Security Network in the coming days.

“The Government would be launching the Imo State Security Network in the coming days.

“A conjugation of other security outfits of the State vis-a-vis Community Policing, Imo State Vigilante etc, the Imo State Security Network would complement on the existing security arrangement in order to offer a robust security of lives and properties of Imolites especially with the yuletide season at hand.”
