Valedictory Session For Late Judge Stalls Oyo-Ita’s Fraud Trial

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has rescheduled the trial of a former Head of Service of the Federation, Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, to February 3.

The trial was scheduled to hold today(Thursday) but our correspondent learnt that the court was holding a valedictory Session for late Justice Ibrahim Watila, who passed on January 25, at 58 years old.

Watila was said to have died after a brief illness.

Recall that Oyo-Ita was arraigned before the Justice Taiwo Taiwo’s Court on March 23, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an 18-count charge bordering on fraud to the tune of about N471,633,291.

Ubong Effiok (her special assistant) and Garba Umar, are among the defendants.

Other defendants are Frontline Ace Global Services Limited, Asanaya Projects Ltd, Garba Umar Slopes International Ltd.; Gooddeal Investments Ltd; U & U Global Services Ltd, which is linked to Effiok and Prince Mega Logistics Limited.

But they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

THE WHISTLER reported that the case had been shifted to October 21, December 1, January 13, January 28 and February 3.
