Valentine’s Day: British Store Sold 40,000 Engagement Rings

A British variety store Poundland claimed to have sold 40,000 engagement rings ahead of Valentine’s Day today Friday.

Demand for the rings, meant to be used as “placeholders” for “real” rings, has nearly doubled since 2019,  the company told BBC.

A breakdown of the price shows that the retail store made N1.9m from the sale of 40,000 rings at an exchange rate of N475.3742. The ring sells for just one pound.

Meanwhile, research by Savvy shows that spending on Valentine’s Day soared by 7.8% to 853 million pounds in 2019, compared to 2018 figures.
