Victor Uwaifo Wowed The World With His Talent– Obaseki, Okowa, Others

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, his counterpart in Delta State Ifeanyi Okowa, and other eminent Nigerians have taken to their verified Facebook page to mourn the death of late Guitarist, Sir Victor Uwaifo.

The legendary high-life musician and guitarist, had died on Saturday 28 August 2021 at the age of 80.

Taking to his Facebook page, Obaseki described the deceased as a phenomenal and an illustrious son of Edo State.

He said, “I received the news of the loss of legendary musician and art teacher, Prof. Victor Uwaifo, with shock and sadness. He was talented, phenomenal and an illustrious son of Edo State who wowed the world with his array of skills, notably his music talent.

“An all-round artist; Prof. Uwaifo was an enigma who made music for all, bringing the contemporary Benin culture to the world stage and providing vicarious experience of the peculiarities of our art and culture to a global audience.

“I pray that God will grant the Uwaifo family, friends, associates and well-wishers the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

On his part, Okowa said, “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I offer my deepest condolences to the Uwaifo family, the Bini Kingdom, and the entertainment industry over the passing of legendary musician, Professor Victor Uwaifo.

“The late Sir Victor Uwaifo was one of the country’s iconic musicians and had an illustrious musical career that spanned over 55 years. He will be remembered and honoured for his huge impact on the entertainment and academic sectors.”

For Chief Dan Osi Orbih who is a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, he described the death of Uwaifo as shocking.

He said, “I received the shocking news of the loss of my friend, a legendary musician and an icon of Benin arts and culture Prof. Victor Uwaifo.

“Professor Victor Uwaifo, was an illustrious son of Edo state who made us so proud with his music and phenomenal talent which put Edo in the world map of music. I pray that God almighty will grant the Uwaifo family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

THE WHISTLER had reported that Uwaifo died from complications resulting from pneumonia and not COVID-19.
