VIDEO: Court Fines Naira Marley N200,000 For Lockdown Violation

Nigerian Singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has been fined the sum of two hundred thousand Naira for violating COVID-19 protocols.

Naira Marley was arraigned before an Abuja mobile court on Friday, August 7, for hosting a concert at Jabi Lake Mall Abuja, which held on June 13, in violation of the COVID-19 order against large public gatherings and interstate travel.

The federal government had announced the regulations in a Presidential Order, which it said was pursuant to Section 4 of the Quarantine Act, Cap. 02, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Marley, who was arraigned before Magistrate Idayat Akanni, had pleaded guilty to the four-count charges leveled against him by the FCT administration.

According to reports, Magistrate Akanni consequently ordered him to pay the sum of ₦50, 000 for each of the count as well as tender a public apology to the Federal Government of Nigeria in a national daily.

The charges brought against Marley were: “violating Presidential ban on interstate travelling, not wearing a face mask contrary to the Presidential Order imposing compulsory wearing of face mask on all persons within Abuja the Federal Capital Territory, violating social distance order as well as violating the dusk to dawn curfew in the territory.”
