Voters Laments As Card Reader Rejects PVC

Voters at the Usuma Ward, 009 polling Unit Phase 3, Kubwa, Abuja are discouraged that the card reader did not authenticate them to cast their vote.

Mrs Philomina sharing her grief with THE WHISTLER said she feels disenfranchised, as she was not authenticated to continue in the voting process.

“What will I do, my name is in the list , so why can’t I vote?, that’s how you people what to disenfranchise me,” She lamented.

“I voted in this same place with my husband in 2015, but today my husband could vote, and I was not allowed.

“I don’t live here now, and I woke up since 3:am to come down here to cast my vote because my house is far from here and you are telling me I can’t vote.”

However, when our correspondent reached out to the presiding officer of the polling unit Mr. Ahmed Idris, he said there is nothing he can do as the instruction from the commission is not to allow any electorate whose PVC is not read by the card reader to vote.

“Any PVC not read will not be allowed to vote,” he said.

“If they check and it reads, nothing will stop her from casting her vote, but in this case the reader did not identify the pvc in my presence, so what I told her is to wait let others vote then we come back and try.

“it if it reads she will be allowed to vote but if it doesn’t, she won’t be allowed to cast her vote.

“I will just urge her to bear with us till the engineer in charge of the card reader comes so I can call his attention to it.”

Idris said there might be no hope if after the engineer troubleshoots the card reader to find the fault and the PVC still doesn’t read.

“The thing is in the whole polling unit it is just two people having the issue, so I doubt if there is hope.”
