W/Cup 2026: FIFA Begins Inspection Tour Of Morocco Amid Transparency Concerns

World football governing body, FIFA on Monday, launched a four-day inspection tour of Moroccan cities, ahead the FIFA Congress scheduled to hold in Moscow on June 13.

The five-member FIFA Task Force will begin inspection tour proposed facilities in four Moroccan cities, namely Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier and Casablanca.

Morocco is the only nation standing alone against a joint US-Mexico-Canada bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

Recall that FIFA had last week inspected facilities in the proposed cities of the North American countries.

Meanwhile, Morocco have expressed concern over the transparency and fairness in assessing the bids and giving the final approval.

In a media statement late March, Morocco’s bid campaign head Moulay Hafid Elalamy said “it is difficult to enter a race when the referee or judge is not impartial.”

The North African nation’s concerns were also communicated officially to FIFA, in a letter recently.

The Moroccan Football Association (FRMF) accused FIFA of introducing late changes to the eligibility criteria for hosting the 2026 World Cup, saying Morocco “cannot accept that FIFA introduced substantial differences at a critical late stage in the proceedings”.
