W/Cup Qualifier: Ezenwa Ruled Out Of Algeria Clash

*Akpeyi May Start For Eagles

FC Ifeanyi Ubah shot-stopper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has been axed from Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifying game against Algeria due to his lack of match fitness, Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr confirmed on Friday.

Following the injury to first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, Rohr was left with goalkeeping headache and had to settle for the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu.

The German expressed his doubts over the fitness level of the FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper who hasn’t been in action for the Anambra Warriors lately and has probably settled for the former U17 goalkeeper and the Dream Team VI goalkeeper.

“I am confident in all three goalkeepers in camp. Akpeyi is playing regularly and so too Alampasu. I attended the Federation Cup final to see Ezenwa play, but was disappointed he was not played. I’ve never seen him play a game live,” Rohr hinted journalists during a media parley session in Uyo.

“I maintain I cannot feature players who have stayed six weeks without action. It’s unfortunate but that’s how it is.”

The coach is expected to select Daniel Akpeyi in goal for the Super Eagles ahead of Dele Alampasu due to his experience.
