WAEC Blacklists 165 Schools In Kwara Over Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council has blacklisted 165 schools in Kwara state over issues bordering on examination malpractice.

The disclosure was made in a statement on Thursday signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The governor frowned at educators and parents in the state who engage in aiding and abetting of examination malpractices, adding that such behaviors have led to the blacklisting of 165 schools in the state as well as a financial penalty of thirty million, five hundred thousand naira.  

“This administration is sad to note that WAEC has derecognised 165 schools in Kwara because of widespread cases of cheating in the 2019 senior secondary certificate examination in which some top education officials and parents were implicated, “the statement read.

AbdulRazaq also vowed to deal with any school that tries to jeopardize the educational prospects of the state via malpractice.

He also urged relevant stakeholders in the state to stop the menace and join hands with government in securing the educational future of the people.

“This is very unfortunate and this administration will not hesitate to sanction any school heads or officials that ever engage in such conduct in the future.

“The administration also urges parents to desist from encouraging cheating in the examination. We call on Kwarans to expose this cancer.”

The West African Examinations Council is an examination board established by law to determine the examinations required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African countries, to conduct the examinations and to award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities internationally.
