The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that registration for the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates has commenced.
WAEC in a post on X, advised prospective candidates to visit any WAEC office, major commercial banks, or accredited partners in their location to complete their registration.
The examination body urged interested candidates to take advantage of the opportunity and register for the first series of the examination.
“Registration for CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 — First Series is still ongoing.
“Visit any of our offices, major commercial banks or accredited partners, in your location, to register,” WAEC said.
Recall that WAEC introduced Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in 2025 as part of efforts to modernise its examination processes and improve efficiency.

Since then, the council has been gradually transitioning its examinations to the CBT format, with the CB-WASSCE being one of the key assessments.
WAEC cited the need to enhance the quality and security of examinations, as well as to align with global trends in assessment, as reasons for adopting the CBT model.
The Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Amos Dangut, disclosed during a press briefing recently that the digital exams are aimed at improving the integrity of the assessment process and combating widespread malpractice.
“This initiative is part of the paradigm shift in the education sector, particularly the adoption of current test administration techniques geared towards upholding the academic and moral integrity of the National Policy on Education and in line with the vision of the Federal Ministry of Education,” he said.
