According to Areghan, the timetable for the examination had to be rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He added that the decision followed federal government’s directive which ordered the closure of schools across the federation.

He also stressed that it would be a risk to the students to embark on the examination at a time when the world was feeling the impact of the virus, adding that it had generated fear among the populace.

The statement reads in part, “The West African Examinations Council in Nigeria, nay, the West African sub-region, has decided to put on hold the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, 2020, earlier scheduled to commence on April 6, 2020.

“This decision is a demonstration of the organization’s concern and support for the various protocols being put in place by the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria and the governments of the other member countries to check the spread of the disease.”
